On at least two vehicles I've ridden in so far here have had technology to monitor what is behind the car when it's backing up. A woman's voice (with an accent--Aussie or English, hard to tell) says the distance of the vehicle's bumper in relation to the next object such as a wall or another car, so you don't hit it. It's really nifty while being slightly annoying.
Next weekend I'm going to the Blue Mountains (fri-sat, I think) and going caving and such. Should be a blast!
These past few days have had me unsure of using my heater or fan while I sleep. Back and forth. Last night I just had both off.
Today I voted with my Absentee ballot. Now I have to mail it in ASAP. Higher taxes to protect a long list of things in MN? Hm...
I know one thing I won't miss when I leave. Cleaning up after everyone's mess. From the first week, it's been so bad that they had to number our bowls and plates and mugs. It helps, but not much. Some people take their dishes to their rooms or the common room and sometimes they leave it there. Then when they need dishes, they use other people's stuff. I haven't seen my mug in a few weeks. It's not a huge problem since I hardly use it. Last I saw it, it had cold soup in it for days, just sitting on the counter. It's gone now...and another problem is when people use silverware (not numbered) and just leave it dirty on the counter. It piles up and soon we are running low. Other problems include people cooking and then leaving the dishes and also not cleaning stuff enough. Bah.
Today I woke up, ate a quick breakfast, and went to the Opera House with Angela to see The Narcissist. It was great! Yesterday we didn't know if we'd get tickets. She said she thought they were sold out since it looked like that on whatever site she was at. I went through the process and it looked like we could have bought some. We decided to risk it and not pay $60 per ticket, and instead go the next day (today) for student rush right before the show. Good thing we did! We got to the opera house and asked around and found out tickets were available and only $29 apiece. So we got those and the seats were great! Row G...so 7 rows back, which is good since the first few rows weren't sold because they were TOO close, and the stage would have been above eye level for them. So we literally got the best seats ever. Almost dead center, but just a little to the left. Not a problem. The tickets I would have paid full price were the exact same, but 2 rows closer, which would have been worse actually. The set was crazy. Very trendy, bright, and futuristic. There was a coffee table that said ME in huge letters. In the crack of the top/middle of the M, was a magazine and in the top thing sticking out of the E was a drawer! I want it.
The play was a comedy, and pretty good. We didn't get the jokes about politics (except a couple) and other famous Australians, but it wasn't all over our heads. I didn't know the main character was gay. But I guess he was and that was alright. A few lines I liked most were: "Weddings are fiction." and "Welcome to our home!" (done as if the listener was a special needs person when she wasn't) and "You look like Red Riding Hood on crack" and "If the people don't matter, then you should be a liberal!" (their liberal party is our republican). At the end for their "bow" they all sang bits of "I Touch Myself" and I was cracking up.
We got back at about 5:30ish. I ate a leftover omelet from before, a banana, yogurt, and a piece of toast with peanut butter and Aussie honey. It's not as sweet and tasted sort of burnt. Weird. I miss frozen pizzas.
They put in the Muppets Movie and I was online and partially watching. Now we're watching West Side Story, which is good since I think I'll present in my UTS class, comparing this to Romeo and Juliet.
